The need

The C2MI (Center for Maintenance of Infra Materials) in Culoz, a repair center for maintenance machines and tools for the Ain, Isère, Savoie and Haute-Savoie network, is composed of 10 agents who work on varied and complex repairs.

To reduce the training time for convenience stores and improve the time it takes to put machines back into production, the profession has expressed the need to test an assisted reality device. This device also makes it possible to meet the constraints of numerous and often distant trips in areas poorly covered by the network.

LUNAAR, a French start-up specializing in digital transformation with assisted reality, wanted to meet the need by engaging in a 4-month sprint.

The solution

To meet this need, Lunaar proposed an assisted reality device that is hands-free, lightweight, autonomous and compatible with personal protective equipment. To support this device, the start-up has developed a hyperbooster connectivity backpack allowing convenience stores to use the device in places that are poorly covered by the network (tunnels for example).

The experiment

The experiment took place in two parts. On December 19, 2023, the Lunaar team brought and presented two assisted reality devices to the Culoz teams.
On February 1, 2024, Lunaar visited the site again to deliver the new means of connectivity, and an additional assisted reality device to extend the experiments.

These devices were tested by the C2MI in Culoz, the STF (Technical Supervision of the Fleet) A2MI, which supports the C2MI on the analysis of the implementation of maintenance, and by the DPX (local managers).

Apprenticeships

The experiments gave rise to ideas among the test agents. One of them raised the need for a cigarette lighter charger to store and recharge connectivity devices while traveling. New potential use cases have also emerged. Such as the use of the device for monitoring, auditing working methods, remotely or for equipping drivers of night vehicles, in order to assist them in the event of breakdowns.

This solution met the need remarkably well, since Culoz's C2MI expressed the wish to buy several devices from Lunaar at the end of the sprint.

“I think it's one of the best solutions because we're really as close as possible. It is really a tool that will add a real plus in terms of communication and to start troubleshooting sooner.” — Arlind PACARIZI, DPX C2MI SUR ALPES
